In Marthaler´s Sale, a play set in a department store threatened with closure, machine-like scenes of frenetic consumers buying every there is to be bought are alternated with beautiful moments where everythings stops and everyone sings. The human character of the music stands in contrast with the sale craze and contributes to overall sensation of estrangement and loneliness.
Christoph Marthaler is recognizedly one of the central figures within the field of composed theatre.
