Norwegian pianist Ingfrid Breie Nyhus (f. 1978) performs folk music, contemporary music and classical music at the piano. She has received several prizes for her performances and recordings, such as The Norwegian Soloist Prize in 2005. The recording ‘Grieg Peasant Dances’ was nominated for the Norwegian Grammy Spellemannprisen and awarded “Record of the Year” by the Great Britain Grieg Society in 2007.
Nyhus has performed at festivals and venues such as the Risør Chamber Music Festival, the Bergen International Festival, the Ultima Festival, Sandvika Master Series, Bebersee Soireen Berlin, Schwetzinger Festspiele, Grønland Chamber Music Festival, King’s Place London, the Ilios Festival, Vestfoldfestspillene, Festspillene i Nord-Norge and more, and as a soloist with orchestras such as the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Trondheim and Kristiansand Symphony Orchestras.
Her folk music background stems from her father’s family and the pols from Røros, and she is also influenced by harding fiddle music from Hallingdal from her mother’s background. She has recorded pols music with her father and sister on the record 3xnyhus. Ingfrid Breie Nyhus now leads her own record company, LabLabel, where the first releases are to come in 2014 and 2015, with contemporary, classical, chamber and folk-inspired music.
