Concert, panel and film with Ramz Sabry Samy, Yara Mekawei, Fady Galal, Joachim Kwetzinsky, Dr Jörn Peter Hiekel and Andreas Engstrøm
Yara Mekawei & Fady Galal: Peacock (live performance with sound and video)
Ramz Sabry Samy: Akhenaten's Last Papyruses for microtonally-tuned piano (with Joachim Kwetzinsky)
Ramz Sabry Samy composes orchestral, chamber and solo instrumental works; Yara Mekawei and Fadi Galal use video art, electronics and new media in social-minded projects. Both live in Cairo and are active participants in the city´s cultural life. As Swedish journal Nutida Musik launches a special Egypt edition, we have invited them to present their work and talk about the role of contemporary music in Egypt. What does it mean to work with art forms rooted in Western tradition? Is colonial discourse still present today, in what way, and how does it affect the arts?
Artwar by Marco Wilms.
